Here to support you.

Lindsay Nelson, MA, LPCC

Owner of Shea Counseling & Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Lindsay cares. She understands the power of a supportive therapeutic relationship in overcoming challenging times. She is fairly direct in her approach, however her clients can expect utmost empathy and compassion from her. She uses experience and humor, when appropriate, and approaches clients from the stance of a “fellow traveler.” She highly values the therapeutic relationship and firmly believes in the power of being seen and believed in.

"My clients have shared that I’m “different” than other therapists they’ve worked with. I approach our work together in a professionally personal manner, using narrative and examples to help illustrate what practical change and growth actually can look and feel like in real life. I am professional and experienced, however that doesn’t disqualify me from being a fellow traveler on this life journey who can truly mean it when I reflect back to you that I “get” it. I have seen the powerful transformation that occurs when clients feel seen and believed in. Not recalling exactly where I heard it to give credit, I have clung to to the phrase, “If the trauma is relational, then so is the healing” and it has stuck with me as my mission as a helping professional. I have numerous long-term clients that I have fostered deep secure attachment with through our work together, and attachment is the largest foundation in my work with clients.

I am playful yet firm in my approach in sessions. I will call you out, but I will do so with kindness and support, and usually with a flare of sarcasm and humor. I love working with adults working through various mental health and relational problems. I have extensive experience working with eating disorders, and I have a strong passion for working with people seeking healing from developmental and relational trauma and attachment concerns. I also work with those struggling with emotion regulation, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, codependency, LGBTQ+ issues, self-harm and suicidal ideation, spiritual and religious trauma, stress, body image concerns, self-esteem, relational patterns and instability, communication difficulties, and parenting concerns.

Lindsay has professional experience supporting clients in numerous mental health settings including: residential treatment, day programming, intensive outpatient programming, group therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, and outpatient individual therapy. Lindsay has training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders, and Healing Our Core Issues: Developmental and Relational Trauma Training, Level 1 (A blend of Post-Induction Therapy, Somatic skills, Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Attachment theory, and other trauma treatment modalities).

Sometimes accompanied by Lindsay is one or both of her dogs. It is always optional to include a companion animal into your therapy session. Though, rumor has it that the dogs are quite excited to support.
