Lindsay Nelson, MA, LPCC
Owner of Shea Counseling
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
BBHT Board Approved Supervisor
Lindsay cares. You deserve a therapeutic space where you feel truly seen, understood, and believed in. Lindsay offers a warm, supportive relationship grounded in empathy, honesty, and the belief that meaningful change is possible, even when life feels especially difficult.
Clients often say Lindsay feels “different” from other therapists they have worked with. Her style is professionally personal: experienced and clinically grounded, but also authentic, approachable, and human. She sees herself as a fellow traveler: someone who can sit with the hard parts, help you recognize patterns, and support you in creating practical change that carries into everyday life. Lindsay is compassionate and fairly direct. She will gently challenge you when needed, always with kindness and respect, and often with a well-timed dose of humor or sarcasm. Her approach is playful yet firm, creating room for both vulnerability and growth. Above all, she believes in the transformative power of being deeply seen and having someone genuinely believe in you.
Lindsay works with adults navigating a wide range of mental health, relationship, and life concerns. She has extensive experience treating eating disorders and is especially passionate about helping people heal from developmental and relational trauma, attachment wounds, and painful relationship patterns.
Her areas of focus include:
Eating disorders and body-image concerns
Developmental, relational, trauma and neglect
Spiritual and religious trauma, deconstruction, identity and faith exploration
Attachment concerns and relationship instability
Anxiety and mood disorders
Codependency and self-esteem
Stress and major life transitions
Communication difficulties
Parenting concerns
Lindsay’s professional experience spans residential treatment, day programming, intensive outpatient care, group and family therapy, couples therapy, and outpatient individual therapy. This broad background allows her to understand both complex mental health concerns and the realities of putting new skills into practice outside the therapy room. Her clinical training includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Family-Based Treatment for Eating Disorders (FBT), and Level 1 of Healing Our Core Issues: Developmental and Relational Trauma Training. This integrative training incorporates Post-Induction Therapy, somatic skills, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Gestalt therapy, attachment theory, and other trauma-focused approaches. Lindsay also holds a graduate degree in Financial Psychology and Behavioral Finance from Creighton University, providing an additional perspective on the emotional, relational, and behavioral patterns that shape our relationships with money.
Shea and Lotee, Lindsay’s companion dogs, may occasionally join sessions. Their participation is always optional - although rumor has it they are especially enthusiastic about offering support.
When not supporting clients, Lindsay loves to do home projects, woodworking, photography, go for walks with her son and dogs, and collect allocated bourbon with her husband.
