Frequently asked questions.

Are you In-Network with my insurance?

Shea Counseling is currently in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Anthem, HealthPartners, Cigna, UCare, Optum, Medica, UMR and UnitedHealthcare.

What if Shea Counseling is not in-network?

Great question! For all other insurance companies, Shea Counseling is an Out of Network (OON) provider. Payment is due at time of services and completed electronically. We accept HSA or FSA accounts or credit card payment.

  • Upon request, Shea Counseling can provide you with a detailed invoice (Superbill) of services for you to submit for reimbursement to your insurance company for OON benefits. Please inform Shea Counseling if you would be utilizing your OON benefits before the first session.

What is virtual therapy like?

Shea Counseling utilizes a platform called Simple Practice for virtual therapy sessions. Through the platform, each week clients receive a session link via text or email and may log on from a computer, tablet, or phone. Truly, virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy, except from the comfort of your home.

How often are sessions scheduled and how long are they?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes in length and occur weekly to begin. As clients make progress, the frequency of sessions may decrease depending on each client’s needs. Client’s may need more support during a more difficult time, and sessions can be added as needed depending on availability.

What if I don’t want to use my insurance?

For those opting to not use their insurance benefits, private pay (clients pay session fee and do not submit to insurance) is always an option. This is becoming more and more popular today as clients report high deductibles, coverage concerns, privacy concerns, and lack of available in-network providers in their area.
